Why Choose Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
What is Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is a highly effective therapy that helps people with a variety of conditions, often exacerbated by stress. It is a natural therapeutic approach that combines elements of psychotherapy and hypnosis to assist individuals in overcoming challenges by concentrating on solutions rather than problems. Clients are encouraged to recognize the positive aspects of their week, even the small things that we usually take for granted. By reminding ourselves of these positives, clients engage their prefrontal cortex, the intellectual and problem-solving part of the brain.
Once in the prefrontal cortex, clients can begin to identify their strengths, past successes, skills, and resources, ultimately changing the way they think. By focusing on what is working well and what they wish to achieve, clients are empowered to take an active role in their own personal development. The approach is based on the premise that the client is the expert on themselves and their circumstances, and they will devise their own solutions. The hypnotherapist serves as a guide, providing knowledge, understanding, and tools; however, the clients themselves arrive at the solutions. This is why Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy is so effective—it emphasizes the value of our own opinions over those of others. Have you ever given advice on what you would do if you were in someone else's situation?
Using the latest neuroscience, I explain in simple terms how the brain functions in relation to the issues clients face and why they feel the way they do. Once a client understands why they are experiencing certain feelings and how to implement necessary changes for a more positive outlook, they can focus on solutions. By leveraging the brain's natural capacity for change, therapists can empower clients to create meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. This holistic approach can help individuals achieve their goals, improve their mental well-being, and enhance their overall quality of life
What can I expect in the initial consultation?
During the initial consultation, we'll explore your motivations for seeking hypnotherapy and clarify how you would benefit from it. It's important for me to gather some personal details and information regarding your health so that I have a better understanding of your circumstances and the challenges you have faced. Providing a relaxed environment and establishing a trusting relationship are key, as I want you to feel comfortable whilst we get to know each other.
As we talk, I’ll share insights about how the brain works and the underlying reasons for your feelings and thoughts. I will present this information in a straightforward and approachable manner, making it easy for you to grasp and understand. Many clients find that this knowledge not only enhances their understanding of their own experiences but also serves as a foundational step toward shifting their mindset and making positive changes.
I’ll also outline what you can expect in future sessions and provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. This process ensures that solution-focused hypnotherapy aligns with your needs and that you feel confident in my approach as your hypnotherapist. Your comfort is one of my priorities, and I’m here to support you on your journey!
What happens in subsequent sessions?
Sessions are very positive, and we don't dwell on the past or focus on problems. Starting with the positive aspects of your week not only sets a constructive tone for the session but also helps you access a more resourceful state of mind. By promoting awareness of the small joys and achievements in your life, you will encourage yourself to cultivate an appreciative mindset, which can be profoundly healing.
The emphasis on engaging the prefrontal cortex (the positive, intellectual part of your mind) to foster feelings of happiness and relaxation is crucial. Recognising that this part of the brain is associated with problem-solving and decision-making can empower clients, allowing them to see that they have the ability to address their own challenges in a thoughtful and constructive way.
My role as a hypnotherapist, as a guide and facilitator, is equally important. By providing tools and knowledge, I create a supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings. It's essential to highlight that you are the experts on your own lives, and that the journey of change is ultimately yours. Encouraging self-discovery and personal agency fosters a sense of empowerment.
I will briefly explain the neuroscience behind how the brain works to help you understand how you can make small changes and provide insight into studies that demonstrate how different techniques used by others have helped create a positive mindset.
The introduction of a happiness scale is a practical and visual tool that can be very effective in helping clients identify their current state and their desired state. This measurable aspect allows you, as the client, to see progress over time and understand the incremental steps you can take toward your future goals.
And lastly, the hypnosis. This is the part of the session where you get to relax and take a break from the world. During hypnosis, I can access both the conscious and subconscious parts of your mind as they come together in focus. By using a series of language patterns, I aim to promote positive changes in the way you think. Throughout hypnosis, you are in control at all times. You are aware of your surroundings and can open your eyes, move, and even talk if you wish.
Overall, this framework promotes self-awareness, positivity, and personal responsibility, all of which are foundational elements for effective therapy. It encourages you to actively participate in your own healing process and recognizes that change is a journey comprised of small, manageable steps. This can lead to meaningful and lasting change in your life.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is safe. It is considered a natural and therapeutic alternative to address stress related conditions.
Whilst in a hypnotic state, clients are in a deep relaxation and heightened focus to facilitate positive change, but remain aware of their surroundings, and remain in control at all times. Clients can hear, talk and come out of relaxation any time if they wish to do so.
Is hypnotherapy like what I see in a pub on a Saturday night or tv for entertainment purposes?
No! Solution focused hypnotherapy is nothing like what you see on television or in a pub on a Saturday night.
I cannot make you do anything you don't want to do. I cannot make you bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken. You won't tell me all your deep dark secrets and there won't be a pocket watch in sight.
Throughout the hypnosis, you can choose to keep your eyes open if you wish, although many clients find it more relaxing to close their eyes. I will read a series of language patterns which are aimed to access both the conscious and subconscious mind as they come together in focus. This makes hypnosis a powerful tool for fostering positive change, whilst addressing issues such as anxiety, phobias, improving habits such as smoking/vaping, and even weight loss.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies based on your individual needs. We will discuss this during the initial consultation.
To get the best results from our hypnotherapy sessions, I would recommend weekly sessions. I have found that clients make quicker progress and need fewer sessions when committed to weekly appointments. I understand that this is not always possible and we can discuss this during the initial consultation.
To get the very best from the sessions, full commitment from you is vitally important.
When in a car, your hypnotherapist is the passenger in the front seat, while you are the driver behind the wheel.
A passenger offers support and guidance with reading the map and providing directions.
However, it is up to you to choose which turns you’ll make and ultimately determine the direction you take!
